Our Prep Classes

A Typical Day for Prep Children

NBC offers a range of engaging specialist learning experiences to all our students. Our specialist subjects for students in Prep to Year 6 are:

  • Performing Arts/Music

  • Social and Emotional Learning

  • Physical Education

Students participate in these subjects for 1 hour each week with a specialist teacher. Other subject areas such as science, design and technology and humanities are taught through “investigation sessions” by the classroom teacher. An example of a typical day at school for the prep students after the first few weeks of school might be as follows:

Prep Calendar Term 1, 2025

Northern Bay P-12 College has put together a Calendar for our new Prep students, in order to help families prepare for their schooling. This has been sent to families, or you can download a copy HERE.

Developmental Curriculum

Investigations

Northern Bay College believes that students learn best through play based, hands-on experiences in the early years of formal education. Teachers engage students in learning by “tapping in” to their unique interests and make real life and meaningful connections to literacy and numeracy skills that are explicitly taught later in the day.

Northern Bay P-12 College Attendance Expectations

Attending school everyday is the single most important part of your child's education. Students learn new things at school every day. Attending and participating in school will help your child develop:

  • Important skills and knowledge to help them learn
  • Social and emotional skills such as good communication, resilience and team work

There is no safe number of days for missing school. Each day a student misses puts them behind.
